Onipa’a Hawaiian Music Concert

January 24 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Mele Hawaiʻi composed by Queen Liliʻuokalani and her siblings, Nā Lani ʻEha, performed by Walea and friends on kingdom-era instruments

“E Onipaʻa I Ka ʻImi Naʻauao,” or “Be Steadfast in the Seeking of Knowledge” will honor the compositions of Hawaiʻi’s royal siblings, known as Nā Lani ʻEhā, or The Heavenly Four. Walea and special guests will play timeless compositions like “Aloha ʻOe” and “Ke Aloha O Ka Haku” on vintage instruments recently acquired by the State Archives.

Hand-written sheet music and other documents from Her Majesty’s personal manuscript collection will also be on display.

Sponsored, curated, and hosted by the Hawaiʻi State Archives, a division of the Department of Accounting and General Services.

The Better Tomorrow Speaker Series is a joint venture of UH Mānoa, The Learning Coalition, and the Hawai‘i Community Foundation, with support from the UH Foundation and the College of Arts, Languages & Letters.
